Stayers

Reasons for Staying in Vermont and Residential Aspirations,
By Gender and Educational Attainment

Stayers value the landscape, their families, Vermont's culture and communities, and the state's small size. Gender and educational attainment are correlated to different emphases on these factors.  For example,  stayers with a graduate degree are more likely than people with lower educational attainment to say "I enjoy living in Vermont." Women are more likely than men to say they stayed in Vermont to live near family. While  roughly half of stayers said they plan to remain permanently in  Vermont, about one-third wish to live part-time in Vermont.   (Statistically significant different factors are noted.)
